Have you gone through the windows 7 or windows 10 install threads that I made in this section?

yup went thru both, tried on xp, win7 and win 10, the power logger never shows up in the device manager, deleted and reinstalled software several times also

So it works when you plug it into your friends computer, but not your computer?

Are you absolutely sure nothing shows up in the 'Devices and Printers' screen when you plug in the USB cable with the key on? It doesn't make much sense that it would work on his computer, if using the same powerlogger and cable, and not yours.

Pick one device and keep using it. No need to keep changing devices.

Need know what shows up on the "Devices and Printers" screen (not device manager), when you plug in the powerlogger (key on). At one point you said something showed up.

The FT232 is the powerlogger. So your computer sees it. You need to get into the properties of that device and see if it has assigned a COM port. If not, it might need the drivers installed.

looks like its on comm3 so i went to propertied and tried to update drive for comm3 to the one in the power logger folder and it said windows determined the best driver is already installed

If you already have a com port, then you don't need to do anything. The drivers are already working.

Start the powerlogger software and set the com port to 3, then try to connect (press the monitor button).
