Time for a new Powerlogger?

Been having issues with the car running just fine and then stumbling and completely dying. All the normal things check out (grounds, battery, alternator, coil/module, etc, etc). I started suspecting a poor connection of the PL to ECM. Sent it off to "garyk1970" to have the leads resoldered and the PL affixed better. Couldn't even make it around the block without the car running just fine, them stumbling and quitting. Couldn't get it to restart.

Here's the thing: Scanmaster was showing all zeros on most of the settings (voltage, BLM, TPS, etc) suggesting the Scanmaster wasn't receiving a data stream. Car eventually came back online while getting a gentle tug back to the house from a neighbor. After looking into things for a few minutes, I scrolled through the SM displays and at one point it was showing the "eth" display. I have never enabled the flex fuel option in PL. A few key on/off cycles reverted back to my normal display. In monitor mode, all my settings are still saved from before. This was also on my original ECM. The problem was also the same on a different backup ECM so I'm really leaning toward a bad PL. Jiggling wires and reconnecting things did nothing and I can't get it to act up when physically moving things around. I have the old version of the PL if that matters (the one with the analog board and PL that is supposed to be held in place with a square of sticky tape).

Time for a new PL?

It certainly sounds like that could be the problem. How old is your powerlogger?

I believe the situation is resolved...for now anyways. When doing the initial troubleshooting, I found crud on the ECM harness connector and ECM terminal (see attached pics). I sent the ECM and PL off as mentioned previously for good measure and cleaned the ECM harness connectors with a soft brush and ultimately switched ECMs. Still had the same problem even after reinstall of the ECM/PL with re-tinned connections and hot glue holding the PL in place snuggly. However, after removing/reinstalling the ECM twice during further troubleshooting, the situation hasn't come up again and the car runs like a top. For good measure, I picked up a can of that CRC "QD Electronic Cleaner" (stuff is over $11 a can!) and thoroughly cleaned out the connectors from the back side and front side multiple times, using compressed air to dry it out thoroughly/blow out debris before reconnecting. All seems okay for now and car is running tip-top.
